Dell'Oro Group: VDSL Shipments Reach All Time Highs in the 2nd Quarter

Sep 07, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- A newly published report by Dell'Oro Group, a source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, revealed that second quarter revenue for VDSL equipment grew 15 percent over the year ago period, driven by record VDSL port shipments on infrastructure equipment and record CPE unit shipments.

"Most service providers are looking to VDSL and/or PON to increase the capabilities of their access networks to keep up with increasing internet traffic and to enable new high-bandwidth intensive services including IPTV," said Steve Nozik, Principal Analyst of Access research at Dell'Oro Group. "Another driver that will likely result in continuing VDSL growth are some newer technological innovations aimed at extending the life of the existing copper infrastructure. These include vectoring and bonding products which have the promise of dramatically increasing bandwidth without the high cost of laying fiber, an appealing option in these uncertain economic times." The report shows that in the second quarter, Adtran, Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei were the lead vendors for VDSL port shipments on network infrastructure equipments, while Huawei, Pace (2Wire) and ZyXEL were the lead vendors for VDSL CPE unit shipments.

The Dell'Oro Group Quarterly Access Report provides complete, in-depth coverage of the market with tables covering manufacturers' revenue, average selling prices, and port/unit shipments for Cable, DSL, and PON equipment.
