Nivis Participates in Successful IPSO Interop
(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ATLANTA, GA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/28/12 --
Nivis, a global leader in Smart Grid and Industrial Wireless networks, participated in the successful Internet Protocol for Smart Objects (IPSO) Alliance interop held in conjunction with the 84th IETF meeting in Vancover, British Columbia. Building upon previous events, the latest interop demonstrated Internet of Things interoperability using the latest IPv6 and Web standards for machine-to-machine (M2M) devices and cloud services in connected home, building automation, lighting, and smart energy-related applications.
"The future Internet of Things will consist of interconnected smart objects from different vendors that are capable of exchanging valuable data," stated Robert Assimiti of Nivis, co-chair of the IPSO Interop Committee. "We added another brick to the IoT foundation during this event. The event showcased web-enabled smart objects from multiple vendors exchanging application payloads in an interoperable manner based on the IPSO Application Template."
The IPSO Application Template enabled participants to interact seamlessly between devices located in Canada, Finland, France, Sweden and the U.S. through a cloud-hosted application. Eight IPSO Member companies participated in the interop, including ElectroTest Sweden AB, Ericsson, Nivis, Nokia, Proto6, Sensinode, Sensus, and Watteco.
"We are extremely pleased with the range of devices and use cases that IPSO members demonstrated at this event, showing how powerful Internet standards are. The IPSO Application Template enabled our members to quickly integrate and demonstrate real end-to-end interoperability between M2M devices and cloud services," said Zach Shelby, Sensinode co-founder and co-chair of the IPSO Interop Committee.
In June, Nivis demonstrated its 6LoWPAN Smart Objects Network Development Kit. The Kit allows users to build a Smart Objects Network quickly 'out of the box,' integrate it with user hardware and then evaluate the performance of Nivis technology in a real environment. Network endpoints can be accessed with a full range of IPv6 commands sent directly to the device from any internet browser.

About the IPSO AllianceThe IPSO Alliance is the primary advocate of IP for Smart Objects for use in energy, consumer, healthcare, and industrial applications. The Alliance, a non-profit organization whose members include leading technology, communications and energy companies, promotes the use of the Internet Protocol to serve as the foundation for a network of sensor-enabled physical objects to communicate with each other as seamlessly as individuals do over the Internet.
