Bridgeport man gets 2 1/2 years for theft of $380,000 in computer equipmentNEW HAVEN, Jun 26, 2012 (New Haven Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- David B. Fein, U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that Gabrielle Quinones, 28, of Bridgeport, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven to 30 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for stealing almost $380,000 in computer equipment and software from PerkinElmer of Shelton. According to court documents and testimony, Quinones was employed by Securitas Security Services as a private security guard. In 2009, while he was stationed at PerkinElmer's office complex in Shelton, Quinones stole $379,065 in proprietary software, laptop and desktop computers, and related computer equipment from the company's warehouse. Quinones listed the stolen merchandise for sale on the Internet auction site eBay and sold the items to purchasers in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Quinones pleaded guilty in March to one count of interstate transportation of stolen merchandise. Judge Arterton ordered Quinones to make restitution of $373,776 to PerkinElmer. This investigation was conducted by the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force, which includes members of the U.S. Secret Service; the U.S. Postal Inspection Service; the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security; the Connecticut State Police; and the Glastonbury, Greenwich, Hartford, New Haven and Shelton police departments.
