SnagFilms to release acclaimed, new Gotham Chopra film 'Decoding Deepak' in theaters, video on demand in October

Jun 25, 2012 ( via COMTEX) -- PR NewsChannel NEW YORK SnagFilms has acquired the exclusive U.S. distribution rights to Decoding Deepak, directed by Deepak Chopra's son Gotham Chopra, and will debut the film "day-and-date" for U.S. audiences on October 5 in select theaters, on Video on Demand via cable and satellite providers, and on digital platforms. The film premiered to critical praise at this year's South By Southwest Film Festival.

Decoding Deepak, a NALA Investments production, is a one-year odyssey of "discovery" by filmmaker/journalist Gotham Chopra of his father - Deepak Chopra, one of modern media and pop culture's most ubiquitous figures.A It has been said that "no man is a hero to his butler." AReflecting a son's love and a journalist's skepticism, Decoding Deepak is Gotham Chopra's occasionally irreverent and alternatively intelligent year-long road trip with his father Deepak. All throughout, Gotham compares the spiritual icon for millions to the very human man known to his family. While a friend and resource for the rich and famous (including Lady Gaga, Oprah and Bill Clinton) and a multi-platform oracle for a worldwide fan base, Deepak Chopra is both a contradiction and cipher to his son. Ultimately what emerges is a picture of a Deepak Chopra who is often more dad than demigod.

"We loved Decoding Deepak from its first screening, as have festival audiences around the country," said SnagFilms CEO Rick Allen.A "A unique and personal film, it will appeal to follower and skeptic alike, and we are excited to bring it to American film audiences this fall across a broad range of platforms. Fans and film lovers will be able to draw inspiration from this story whether they watch it in a movie theater, on video-on-demand, on television or DVD."A "I'm so thrilled to partner with SnagFilms to bring this project to such a wide audience," Gotham Chopra offered. "Now when my father kills me for putting a camera behind the curtain, it will not all have been in vain." Deepak Chopra responded, "When you look into a mirror you don't always see what others do. To decode someone is to unravel many perspectives. Gotham did a good and honest job." Decoding Deepak will be released on the same day in theaters in major markets and nationwide on VOD and digital platforms including iTunes, Amazon, VUDU and Xbox Live by SnagFilms, one of the world's leading digital distributors of independent films.A Paladin will handle theatrical distribution on behalf of SnagFilms.AAA Decoding Deepak is presented by NALA Investments in association with Houseblend Media.AA It is a Gotham Chopra Film, directed and written by Gotham Chopra, executive produced by Emilio Diez Barroso and Darlene Caamano Loquet produced by Gotham Chopra, Scott Carlin and Mark Rinehart.
