BRIEF: Bond set for El Paso High student accused of child porn

May 21, 2012 (El Paso Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- An 18-year-old high school student accused of having child porn on his laptop is schedule to be released on bond, but with a long list of conditions.

Armando Jesus Garcia appeared in federal court this morning before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Castaneda.

The El Paso High School student is accused of downloading videos with children engaging in sexual acts with adults. Garcia allegedly admitted to this last week when he was arrested at his West El Paso home by Texas Rangers and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Garcia's bond was set at $10,000, but Castaneda added more terms.

But under the terms of his bond, Garcia must live at home under his mom's supervision and undergo mental health evaluations.

Garcia will have limited access to a computer and cannot be around or communicate with any juveniles. That includes going to the park near his house.

If Garcia violates any of the terms of his bond or skips any court dates, he will be arrested, Castaneda said.
