BRIEF: Woman says good deed goes bad

May 18, 2012 (The Free Lance-Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Fredericksburg woman claims she was rewarded for doing a good deed by being kicked and robbed, police said.

According to city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe, the incident occurred about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday after the victim found an iPhone next to the 7-Eleven on Lafayette Boulevard.

The 53-year-old woman said she looked through the phone and identified the owner. She then called the owner and made arrangements to meet her at nearby Mr. Dee's in the 700 block of Lafayette Boulevard to return it.

A short time later, according to the story, the woman who owns the phone showed up with a man in a gold Honda Accord. The victim said she gave the woman her phone and in return got a cash reward of less than $50.

As she was walking away, the victim said the man grabbed her from behind, threw her down and took the money from her. He also kicked her while she was on the ground before he and the woman rode off.

Bledsoe said the victim, who lives in that area, did have evidence of having been assaulted. The investigation is continuing.
