NETCENTS Task Order Awarded to Telos Corporation Breathes New Life into the Air Force's Application Software Assurance Center of Excellence

ASHBURN, Va. --(Business Wire)--

The U.S. Air Force's Program Executive Office for Business Enterprise Systems (PEO BES) has awarded Telos Corporation a contract worth over $25M including options to provide application-level security.

The contract team provides software and services to the PEO BES at Maxwell AFB - Gunter Annex in Montgomery, Ala., to continue the work of the Application Software Assurance Center of Excellence (ASACoE) originally established in 2007. The center of excellence is tasked with establishing application security best practices Air Force-wide, fostering security throughout the software development and maintenance life cycle, and identifying and mitigating existing vulnerabilities.

"Application security is critical across all communities in the Air Force and can ultimately impact critical command and control functions," said Ed Williams, Telos' chief operating officer. "ASACoE's efforts increase the service's ability to carry out critical missions in cyberspace and ensure the security of people, systems and equipment that support the warfighter."

Telos was awarded an initial task order to establish the center in October 2007, and the center received additional funding in 2009 and 2010. The center has conducted software assurance assessments on over 700 applications, discovering and mitigating numerous exploitable vulnerabilities. Traditional network perimeter security mechanisms do not protect against these attacks.

Leveraging Xacta (News - Alert)® IA Manager, Xacta Flux and other partner products, Telos is tasked with ensuring that applications address security hand-in-hand with performance and application availability througout the system development lifecycle. This approach significantly reduces the time and expense associated with remediation efforts. As the prime contractor, Telos assembled a powerful team, including application security industry leaders that specialize in source code analysis, web application penetration and security testing, application shielding, database monitoring, training and implementation services. The team includes Cigital, Inc., HP Enterprise Security (which includes the former Fortify Software, Inc.), IBM Rational and Application Security (News - Alert), Inc. As an option, products and services from Coverity, Aspect Security and Imperva will also be available to the Air Force under this agreement.

Telos serves as a prime contractor on the five-year NETCENTS contract vehicle, which was recently extended by the government for an additional two years. NETCENTS is an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract that provides the Air Force, the Department of Defense and other federal agencies with a single vehicle through which to buy network-centric information technologies, networking equipment, and services, as well as voice, video and data communications hardware and software and telephony solutions from preferred contractors. NETCENTS provides a proven competitive edge for the federal government by reducing the time-to-market for critical networking and communications equipment and services.
