Wet Shaving Making A Comeback

NEW ORLEANS, Jan 05, 2012 (WGNO-TV - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- There is a yearning for a different era, and it is being seen in the kind of shaving men are turning to: wet shaving.

The old-fashioned way of getting a clean shaven look is getting some attention, and young men are even turning to videos on Youtube to learn how.

Aiden Gill who runs two New Orleans shops, Aiden Gill for Men is not surprised at all. He has dedicated three decades to making traditional male grooming a resurgence. His shops offer all the tools.

"A lot of young men are buying a lot of double edged razors which came out in the 1900's. they're coming back to what is considered a more traditional shave and services for wet shaving," Gill said.

Taylor Moore enjoyed the experience in a room reserved for men only. Gill calls it "the inner sanctum", and men can enjoy a shave, and even some whiskey if they want.

"That shave was great. My skin feels extremely soft. It's the closest I've had ever. It feels great. I feel great," Moore said.

The three part process involves, shave cream, shave oil, and balm, in between many hot towel soakings that come out of a traditional towel steamer. However, while they use double edged razor, no straight razors are used, because they are banned for hygiene reasons.

Gill does have a collection of them on the wall.

While wet-shaving, may be a yearning for another time, Gill says it may also be recession-based.

Whatever the case, it's popularity is growing, and grooming businesses like Aiden Gill for men are popping up across the country; many looking to him for ideas.
