Cox Launches 62 HD New Channels on Dec. 20


CHESAPEAKE, Va., Dec. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Cox Communications is pleased to announce that it will launch 62 new HD channels for Hampton Roads customers on December 20, 2011. With these HD channel launches, Hampton Roads customers now have access to 103 HD channels.



Cox Virginia's Vice President of Marketing Jonathan Freeland said, "We are delighted to offer these new HD channels and to continue expanding our offering of high definition programming free of charge to our customers. These new HD channels provide the same terrific programs with the added quality of high definition television and will launch on December 20th." Freeland adds, "With these additions, Cox continues to expand its services to provide both the quality as well as the quantity of HD content for our valued customers. With this expansion, we now offer all of the highest rated HD and SD programming to our customers - all at no extra charge to customers." Below are the new channels to launch: Channel Name New Channel Number (Hampton Roads) FEARnet: This channel provides show horror films; they also are a horror movie 199 resource.

Daystar: This channel provides religious television programming. 125 Starz Edge HD: This channel is part of the Starz family of channels and provides 1362 original series movies.


ESPN News HD: This network provides comprehensive sports coverage, sports 1232 information including NFL, MLB, NBA, College Football, College Basketball scores and news.

Tennis Channel HD: This network is the only 24-hour, television-based 1222 destination dedicated to tennis and the healthy, active lifestyle.

Fox Soccer HD: This network is a specialty channel, owned by News 1225 Corporation's Fox Entertainment Group, that specializes in soccer.

Investigation Discovery HD: This HD network offers the latest true crime news, 1103 events and more.

BBC America HD: This network is a simulcast of BBC America in HD and 1252 provides broadcasting comedy, drama and lifestyle.

Galavision HD: This network airs a combination of classic comedy, telenovelas, 1275 and late night shows, with other offerings from news, sports and specials.

WE HD: This network provides a variety of programming is marketed towards 1212 women.

OWN HD: This network is the HD version of its standard definition counterpart 1058 and is an American specialty channel produced by Harpo Productions and targeted to women.

TruTV HD: This network is the HD version of its standard definition counterpart and 1057 provides programming on crime, gangsters, serial killers, terrorists, spies, assassins and classic crime stories Turner Classic Movies HD: This is the HD version of its standard definition 1211 counterpart and presents classic movies and programming.

Headline News HD: This is the HD counterpart to Headline news (formerly 1026 known as CNN Headline News) and provides the most popular national and international stories, in addition to feature reports.

Nat Geo Wild HD: This channel is focused on animal-related programs and brings 1269 you intimate encounters with nature's ferocious fighters.

WGN HD: This channel is the HD version of the WGN TV which airs mostly 1099 syndicated programming.

Univision HD: This is a Spanish-language television network in the U.S. airing 1054 local news and other local programming in addition to network shows.

Telefutra HD: TeleFutura's programming consists of telenovelas from Coral 1271 Productions, RCTV, RCN and Rede Globo as well as movies often consisting of recent American releases dubbed into Spanish.

In addition to the outstanding new programming, Cox is also offering a new package called El Mix. This channel caters to Spanish speaking customers. This package offers the best of more than 78 top-rated channels including all Spanish channels from the Latino Pak, plus other non-Spanish language channels such as Discovery, Disney, MTV, Nickelodeon, Fox Soccer and more.

Finally, Cox will move the Pay Per View Preview Channel to channel number 196; this channel is currently on channel number 196.
