ARRIS Debuts Open Architecture for Multi-Screen Ad Insertion in Trial With Envivio Video Delivery Solution

SUWANEE, Ga., Nov. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- ARRIS Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS) today announced that it has completed trialing of an innovative approach for multi-screen ad insertion using its AdManager(TM) platform. The AdManager platform supports open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that enable dynamic ad-insertion into live and VOD (Video-on-Demand) content delivered to portable devices and traditional STBs, taking advantage of embedded SCTE-130 and Video Ad Serving Template (VAST) messaging on advertising availability.

The open solution, at its core, consists of a Playlist Manager and Placement Order Information System (POIS) components that integrate with the Envivio 4Caster(TM) multi-screen encoder and Envivio Halo(TM) network media processor, as well as with the ARRIS VIPr Encoder platform. Cable operators now have a straightforward means to extend local ad placement to mobile screens, including iPads, iPhones, Android-based devices, PCs and laptops. The use of open APIs during the encoding and HTTP stream packaging processes allows ads to be targeted on a client-by-client basis. The use of existing SCTE and Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) open advertising specifications accelerates network integration and offers service providers, publishers and content owners the most flexible solution to monetize their content on IP-capable consumer devices.

"Our new open API framework, combined with the AdManager platform and ABR encoders and packagers, enables operators to leverage their significant, existing advertising investments for addressable ad delivery to IP-enabled devices," said ARRIS vice president of Product Line Management, Media Communication Systems, Neerav Shah. "Being the first to bring this solution to market, with Envivio, further proves ARRIS' leadership in ad insertion technology." "Service providers have invested a lot of money and resources to deliver a high quality multi-screen video service, sometimes without a clear return on investment," said Arnaud Perrier, Envivio vice president of Solutions. "Client-based ad insertion takes multi-screen to the next level by further customizing the service and enabling a revenue-generating business model. Our collaboration with ARRIS further demonstrates Envivio's commitment to helping customers further capitalize on their Envivio headends." This multi-screen ad insertion solution will be demonstrated in the Spotlight Pavilion at SCTE Expo during SCTE Expo, November 15-17 in Atlanta, GA. Additionally, each company's complete ad insertion solutions will be demonstrated at their respective booths, ARRIS (#873) and Envivio (#326).
