Vivante Corp., a provider of graphics and visualization technologies for handheld and consumer entertainment applications, and Ingenic Semiconductor, a China-based CPU provider for mobile multimedia applications, announced upcoming support of the latest Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) platform based on Vivante GPU technology powering the newly announced Ingenic's JZ4770 mobile applications processor.
According to a release, Ingenic's JZ4770 feature-rich SoC provides an ideal balance of performance, usability, and low power by integrating a high performance Vivante OpenGL ES 2.0 3D GPU and 1GHz MIPS32 compatible XBurst CPU core. At 1GHz, the JZ4770 SoC consumes 250mW, making it an ideal solution for small-and-light, ultra-low power mobile solutions for all day computing. The combination of the design centered on the GPU and CPU brings a new level of immersive entertainment to users for games, browsing, and multimedia.
Vivante GPU cores deliver an exciting and dynamic user experience with graphics architecture for next generation consumer and digital entertainment devices. At the center of the GPU is a complete suite of hardware and software technologies, supporting the latest graphics standards and industry specifications for edge applications. Designed to be the most power efficient core in the market with double the performance of competing solutions, the complete series of Vivante cores enable products to run faster, smaller and cooler.
"As a longtime Vivante partner with success in integrating multiple generations of Vivante GCCore graphics technologies into our products, it was an easy decision to move forward once again with Vivante to power our latest JZ4770 SoC. The complete package that Vivante brought based on technical merit, performance, energy efficiency, and software ecosystem support allowed us to move forward as one of the first SoC vendors to support the latest version of Android Honeycomb for larger display tablets. The exceptional performance inherent in GCCore's cutting edge OpenGL ES 2.0 design together with our integration and area design efficiency and low power expertise, brings to market a complete and competitive solution to continue our momentum in the China market and globally," said Qiang Liu, chairman and CEO for Ingenic Semiconductor.
Vivante CEO Wei-Jin Dai says, "We are pleased to continue our partnership as a key supplier to a high growth and innovative company like Ingenic for the next generation of super tablets and mobile devices. The introduction of Honeycomb brings higher performance and larger resolutions to the latest generation of devices with an emphasis on even better user experience for hardware accelerated graphics, faster browsing and media acceleration. The technical leadership of our two companies enabled a successful collaboration that led to this important milestone and continued growth as Ingenic introduces other essential next generation consumer products."
