China UnionPay launches bankcard-free trade handling platformBEIJING, Jun 09, 2011 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- China UnionPay on Wednesday introduc ed an online and cell phone payment system, the first time that UnionP ay has offered a trading platform that does not involve bankcard trans actions. UnionPay has signed agreements with 157 banks and over 60 banks have joined the platform. It is expected that more than 200 financial institutions will be connected to the platform. According to UnionPay, customers can make payments through the I nternet or by cell phone with only a UnionPay card number and the rele vant authentication information. The cell phone online payment system is a terminal that can be d ownloaded into cell phones and registered users can enjoy services sup ported by the platform at any time and place.
