Charter Announces Acquisition of Cable Systems From Windjammer in Alabama and Georgia

ST. LOUIS, Mar 21, 2011 (PR Newswire Europe via COMTEX) -- Charter Communications, Inc. today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire three cable television systems serving, in aggregate, approximately 17,000 customers in Alabama and Georgia from Windjammer Communications, LLC.

The systems, located in Fort Benning, GA and Fort Payne and Cullman, AL, currently offer digital video, high-speed Internet and phone services to customers in these areas. Charter expects to close the acquisition in the third quarter of 2011.

Charter President, Operations Steven Apodaca said, "These properties have a strong geographic link with the communities Charter has served in Alabama and Georgia for many years, and this transaction is very much aligned with our strategy of enhancing core system clusters." Systems that will become part of Charter include Fort Benning, GA near Charter communities surrounding Columbus, GA; Fort Payne, AL near Charter communities surrounding Albertville, AL and, Cullman, AL near Charter's operations in Decatur and Birmingham, AL.

Charter anticipates broader deployment of Digital, Video on Demand and HD programming, providing faster Internet speeds and the rollout of new services already introduced in nearby Charter markets for Charter Business clients.

The purchase price was not disclosed.
