ActiveVideo Networks Cable Congress Exhibit to Show Smart TV Functionality and Apps on Existing STBs and CI Plus TVs

HILVERSUM, Netherlands and SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- ActiveVideo Networks(TM), the global leader in cloud-based interactive television solutions, will demonstrate how its CloudTV Platform(TM) can uniformly bring Smart TV functionality and applications to any set-top box or television equipped with CI Plus (Common Interface Plus) modules at the Cable Congress February 15-17 in Lucerne, Switzerland.

During the three-day conference, ActiveVideo will show how CloudTV(TM) can build value for cable system operators, programmers and third-party developers by enabling the limitless delivery of content and applications that are streamed from the network cloud. The ActiveVideo exhibit will demonstrate the breadth of content that can be created using Web-based development technologies in a "write once, deploy everywhere" environment.

"Media companies today are expending significant resources to ensure that apps are compatible with the wide variety of platforms in the marketplace," said Ronald Brockmann, managing director, Europe for ActiveVideo Networks. "The beauty of CloudTV is that it slashes application development time and expenses, while allowing the same rich engagement experience across any device, including televisions that support the emerging CI Plus 1.3 standard." CloudTV currently is in approximately 5 million homes served by major cable and IPTV providers in the United States and the international marketplace. ActiveVideo Networks recently reached an agreement with Funai Electronics that will bring Smart TV solutions based entirely in the network cloud to connected televisions.

In addition to CloudTV's ability to drive content and application creation and delivery, the ActiveVideo Cable Congress exhibit will include the ability of operators to enhance services for consumers with iPhones, other smartphones and Web-connected devices. The demonstration will show how communication from handheld devices can enable true, real-time interactive and on-demand services over one-way cable plant, as well as the ability to use ActiveVideo's iPhone Remote Control App to enable gesture-based interactivity, improved keyboarding and navigation, significantly improved search and discovery, and the ability to upload photos and intuitively control displays on the TV.
