Hard drive burned, trial is told [Herald, The (Scotland)]

(Herald, The (Scotland) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MALCOLM Webster was seen burning a computer hard drive in his garden, another of his former partners told the court.

The accused told Christina Wills he had worked for a company called Cerner in Saudi Arabia and had been given "military status" and the rank of colonel during his employment, the High Court in Glasgow heard.

She said he told her he was still working as an external contractor for the business when they were living together on the Isle of Seil and he needed to destroy the hard drive when he got a new computer.

Ms Wills said: "He said he had to destroy the hard drive on the old one because it had confidential codes." She added: "He told me that when he was working in Saudi Arabia he officially had some sort of military status. He indicated that was just the way things were run there. He said he had a rank of colonel but he would laugh about it and say this was just a formality to enable him to travel in the county." Ms Wills, 61, said that Webster suffered from cash-flow problems and there were times when she would pay for things and he would promise to give her the money back, but never did.

She said: "It wasn't unusual for him to have cash-flow problems." (c) 2011 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
