Internet Research Group Publishes Research Study of the Messaging Fabric

LOS ALTOS, CA, Nov 01, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Internet Research Group (IRG) today announced the release of its latest report on email infrastructure "A Messaging Fabric: The Case for a Messaging Infrastructure Layer." "Email was the first Internet application and in many regards is still the most important," noted Peter Christy, co-founder of IRG.

"Today with the business-critical importance of email, the compounding impact of regulatory compliance and security and the value of preserving an agile email system that can respond quickly both to structural changes as well as changing external demands, our research demonstrates that a need exists for a formalized messaging infrastructure in large enterprises -- the Messaging Fabric." This report, "A Messaging Fabric: The Case for a Messaging Infrastructure Layer" describes email use cases which drive the need for a comprehensive Messaging Fabric as well as the structural and functional requirements.

This evolving category of products and services -- what IRG calls the Email Fabric market -- has grown in importance to represent a distinct category in email infrastructure. Our research concludes that there is real value in having a Messaging Fabric -- a formalized layer of messaging middleware -- above and beyond what is found in an email product such as Microsoft Exchange, and that this value increases rapidly as a large enterprise increases in size and complexity due to a set of external forces. Most large enterprises need to pay attention to this emerging category as an important alternative to the OpenSource and locally engineered solutions in use today.

Companies like Cisco, Google, IBM/Lotus, McAfee, Microsoft, Sendmail, and Symantec provide elements in various degrees.

The study is available now. It can be found at http://www.irg-intl.com/whitepaper/2010-Messaging-Fabric.html.
