Presagis Announces a SeaWind OpenGL Hardware-Accelerated Driver Optimized for Intel Chipsets

Sep 23, 2010 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Presagis (http://www.presagis.com)(TM), a leading provider of commercial-off-the shelf (COTS) modeling, simulation, and embedded display graphics software, today announced the release of the SeaWind family of drivers optimized for Intel chipsets (Seawind for Intel driver family). The new SeaWind for Intel driver family offers support for X11R7 and OpenGL 2.1 and works with a wide variety of Intel express graphics devices. The new driver family provides embedded developers with the ability to explore new hardware form-factor possibilities while benefitting from reductions in heat dissipation, power, and weight.

"Presagis has a 20 year history in delivering COTS software for embedded systems and we remain committed to collaborating with leading graphics device companies to drive innovation in this market," said Robert Kopersiewich, Vice President and Product Segment Lead for Embedded Graphics at Presagis. "With the delivery of the latest SeaWind for Intel driver family, Presagis is ensuring it offers an unmatched range of OpenGL software driver products to meet virtually any mission-critical embedded system requirement." High-performance graphics devices created for commercial markets can sometimes be too large and power-hungry to meet the needs of many embedded applications. It is not uncommon for these applications to require integrated, small form factor solutions that take less space, consume less power, and weigh less than high-end graphics devices used in PCs. Using an Intel technology-based device can provide users with several benefits, including: decreasing the costs associated with developing the embedded application reducing power, weight, and space increasing reliability by requiring fewer connectors reducing the part count, and reducing assembly time and inventory issues.

The SeaWind for Intel family of drivers also allows users to unlock onboard graphics capabilities stored within an existing Intel chipset for deployed systems already in use. Additionally, the SeaWind OpenGL software can enable use of the integrated GPU even when a discrete GPU is being used in the system, permitting additional graphics output from the same hardware. This is a possible alternative in applications such as avionics primary flight displays and military ground vehicle displays with a multiple screen requirement.

The release of the Seawind for Intel driver family rounds out the Presagis line of software driver products and further helps the company to deliver graphics solutions to embedded customers to meet a wide range of requirements, including different form factors, varying levels of graphics processing, and meeting stringent mission-critical standards.

Note: To learn more about about embedded onboard Intel graphics and how Presagis drivers can help to unlock this capability, Presagis is running web seminars on September 28th and September 29th. Register to attend at http://www.presagis.com/about_us/events/webseminars/ (http://www.presagis.com/about_us/events/webseminars/) About Presagis Embedded Graphics Drivers and Services Presagis provides embedded software drivers for a wide number of mainstream GPUs and embedded real-time operating systems. For graphics devices supported, Presagis gets access to the required documentation and technical support from the device manufacturer and, in many cases, works closely with their engineering teams. With this knowledge of device internals, Presagis is then capable of handling all sales and support responsibilities when delivering software products for the aerospace and defense market. To meet additional custom requirements, Presagis offers access to an experienced Technical Services team that can work with users in the integration and deployment of their SeaWind driver to meet specific customer project requirements and timelines.
