BRIEF: Internet cafe on Broad St., for seniorsSep 22, 2010 (Philadelphia Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Frances Delgado rarely uses the Internet. "I need to get an e-mail address, but I don't know where to start," Delgado says. The few things the 77-year-old knows how to do online, she learned at the Philadelphia Senior Center. Now Delgado and others like her will have more opportunities to practice computer skills at the new GreenBean Internet Cafe, which was unveiled this week at the center, on Broad Street near Lombard. Ten new laptops in the cafe allow seniors to get online and will be used by participants in programs like the popular class "The Best Day of My Life (So Far)," which allows seniors to tell stories about their own lives and on their own blogs. "Some of the seniors read the blog off of my laptop," said Benita Cooper, executive director of the blog. "Now they can read our blog outside of class time too, at the Internet Cafe." Barbara Mauldin, 82, was also excited about the addition to the center. "I can use it [the Web] to look up information about my medications and stuff like that," Mauldin said. One-on-one tutoring will be provided for seniors who wish to learn more about the Internet. "When they open up the classes, I'm gonna sign up and learn," Mauldin said.
