'Swisscom plans to activate FTTH during coming months - CEO'

Aug 10, 2010 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Swisscom sold out the iPhone 4 at 10.00 hours on the day of the launch (30 July), only able to fulfil 10 percent of the total demand, according to Swisscom CEO Carsten Schloter. He said that Apple needs to optimise its distribution procedures, as it was impossible to pre-register for the device. Schloter also said that due the iPhone launch, Swisscom sold less mobile phones during June and July than in the same period in 2009. With regards to Swisscom's Italian subsidiary Fastweb, of which Schloter is temporarily CEO, he said that the judicial procedures against Fastweb's manager is expected to be resolved in September or October of this year and that they will be able to return as managers. Swisscom is successful with its digital TV service and expects to reach 400,000 users before the end of this year.

Schloter could not say when he expects to overtake Swiss cable network operator Cablecom, which currently has more than 400,000 digital TV users. With regards to FTTH, Schloter said that Swisscom has deployed FTTH to 180,000 households around Switzerland and activation of the connections has been prepared. The operator plans to activate the connections some time during the second half of this year, following signing of definitive agreements with local utilities and approval from the Swiss cartel office Weko.
