MSN China May Have Reaped USD70mn Operating Revenue in 09

BEIJING, May 06, 2010 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- MSN China, an instant messaging (IM) unit of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT), is likely to have booked USD 50 million-USD 70 million in operating revenue for 2009, said CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets in a report.

MSN China has exceeded the break-even point, according to the investment bank, in response to the earlier reports that the Microsoft unit may have failed to make a profit. Set up in May 2005, MSN China operates an online portal and search services for the US-based IT giant, serving nearly 40 million netizens in the world's biggest Internet market.

A partnership between MSN China and NetEase.com Inc. (NASDAQ: NTES) will be of strategic importance, said CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets, noting that the reported investment in MSN China from NetEase.com is not a groundless rumor. There is widespread market hearsay that MSN China is close to entering into an agreement with NetEase.com in collaboration in news and information provision.
