ZipList Launches Free Online Shopping List Service to Simplify Meal Planning and Grocery Shopping

Sterling, VA, Feb 16, 2010 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- ZipList (www.ZipList.com) today launched a free online shopping list and recipe service to get shoppers in and out of the supermarket quickly, helping them to save time and money. ZipList enables users to share their grocery lists with anyone they choose, update their lists online or by email, instant message or text, and even sort their lists by aisle or store. Users can also search an extensive database of more than 100,000 recipes and add the ingredients for each one to their shopping lists with just a click or two. They can even save all their recipes from across the web in one universal recipe box.

ZipList today also announced a strategic relationship with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. (NYSE: MSO) to incorporate the new ZipList service into recipes across MarthaStewart.com. Users will now find an "Add to ZipList" button adjacent to recipes, allowing users to add the ingredients to a shopping list or save recipes to a central recipe box.

In related news, MSLO today released "Martha's Everyday Food(TM)," a new app for iPhone and iPod Touch users, which is available for $.99 in the Apple's App Store. Powered by ZipList's technology platform, users can search recipes, receive a daily alert with recipe ideas, and add meal ingredients to their weekly shopping lists. The app, based on MSLO's popular Everyday Food magazine, seamlessly syncs with www.ZipList.com so shared users always have access to the most up-to-date list.

"The weekly shopping list is one of those productivity tools that never really made the jump online in any way that made it significantly more useful than a paper list," said Geoff Allen, Founder and CEO, ZipList, Inc. "Today, that changes with the introduction of ZipList. We've created a service that makes it easy to share lists with family members, add ingredients for the week's dinners and access the most up-to-date lists from any cell phone on impromptu trips to the grocery store. This is what consumers have been waiting for to make their weekly shopping trips more efficient and cost-effective." Gail Horwood, MSLO's SVP Digital Programming & Strategy, stated, "We're truly excited by this partnership with ZipList, which offers another touch point for consumers to interact in a practical and meaningful way with our Everyday Food brand. ZipList is a dynamic company focused on bringing simple, useful tools to the consumer, and we look forward to expanding our integration of its technology as it continues to develop." Key ZipList Product Features - Add to or Retrieve Grocery Lists Anytime, Anywhere: Users can access or add to their shopping lists on the web, or by email, instant message or text message from a cell phone. Users can also share their lists with family members, even between several different mobile devices. No other online shopping list service allows users to do this today.

- Support for Multiple Lists and Multiple Stores: Users can create and save multiple shopping lists, as well as build and organize lists for specific stores in their areas. Users can also arrange items by aisle or category to make shopping more efficient and reduce back-tracking through the store to pick up missed items.

- Search Recipes and Add Ingredients to Shopping Lists: Users can search an extensive database of more than 100,000 recipes, then add necessary ingredients to their shopping lists with just a click or two. No longer do shoppers need to print out ingredient lists or transfer them by hand to a separate shopping list. ZipList also recognizes many common pantry items, such as salt and pepper, so the shopping list does not get cluttered with items users already have on hand.

- Universal Recipe Box: Users can add recipes they find from any site across the web to a central recipe box housed at ZipList.com. This eliminates the common problem of having to keep track of multiple recipe boxes on the web, or using browser bookmarks, Word or Excel files to keep track of favorite recipes.

- Recipe Clipper: For many popular recipe sites on the web, users can easily save recipes to their universal recipe box at www.ZipList.com using ZipList's Recipe Clipper. They just need to click a Recipe Clipper link in their web browser and the recipe will be automatically added to their ZipList recipe box. If ZipList doesn't recognize the recipe on that page, they can still copy and paste recipe ingredients.

- Ability to Prioritize Grocery Items: Users can mark the level of importance of items on their grocery lists. This feature is ideal for unexpected grocery stops when the user has only a few minutes to pop in the supermarket and can then pick up the most-needed items on the list.

- Smart Item Entry: ZipList features a grocery database of more than 250,000 individual products, making it easy to add items simply by entering just three or four letters of the product name. ZipList is smart too-it remembers and suggests previous items users have added to their list, and keeps a history to make it easy to add frequently purchased items in the future.

Helping Advertisers Reach Grocery Shoppers ZipList offers consumer packaged good manufacturers (CPGs) and grocery retailers the opportunity to reach grocery shoppers by way of display ads placed alongside and below the ZipList online grocery shopping list, as well as alongside recipe and store search. Interested advertisers can review the Advertising section at www.ZipList.com.
