CHENGDU, Dec 30, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- On December 28, Chinese supercomputer and server marker Dawning put a cloud computing center into operation in the city of Chengdu, China's southwestern Sichuan Province.

Powered by Dawning's latest supercomputer Dawning 5000 and Intel blade servers that are equipped with two-way quad-core and four-way six-core CPUs, the center is meant to specially serve government offices.

Via Infiniband network and Gigabit networks, the center's peak computing capacity can reach 200 trillion times per second. With a total investment of CNY 350 million, the center is the most advanced of its kind in China.

The first-stage project of the center has been completed, which is connected by 300 nodes, with a computing ability of 30 trillion times per second.

As a major telecommunications project, the center will serve as a communications hub in the southwestern area. And it will play a key role in serving e-government and scientific research in the area. On top of that, it is expected to give the local economy in West China a big lift.
