'Orange launches HD voice for mobiles in Moldova'

Sep 11, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Orange has chosen the Moldovan market to launch the world's first high-definition voice service for mobile phones at 9:09 pm on 09 September 2009. Orange Moldova will use HD sound to provide its customers with significantly improved quality thanks to what the group describes as the first major evolution in mobile voice technology since the 1990s. The Nokia 6720c is the handset with integrated HD voice capability being offered by Orange Moldova, whose 3G network covers 63 percent of the population and was recently upgraded to 14.4 Mbps. The Nokia phone uses Adaptive Multi Rate - WideBand (AMR-WB) technology, expected to become a new standard by delivering a much richer, natural sound and fading out background noise. Orange said it planned to extend the range of HD voice-compatible mobile handsets across Europe, with HD voice services to become available in the UK and Belgium by the end of 2010. The group believes that these phones will represent the majority of the 3G handsets sold within five years. On the fixed-line front, Orange introduced HD voice for VoIP in France in 2006, where it has sold over 500,000 HD voice-enabled Livephone devices. The group said it intends to rollout HD VoIP to other European markets such as Poland and Spain.
