'German mobile web users prefer to go online at home - study'

Sep 04, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Internet-enabled mobile phones will become a viable alternative for PCs, according to a new study by Accenture. The study found that most handset owners who use their devices to go online, do so in their own homes, showing that smartphones can provided a simpler way to access the web in specific situations. Over 60 percent (62%) of respondents had accessed e-mail and news on their handsets at home, up from 41 percent in 2008, and 55 percent accessed the mobile internet while away from home, down from 64 percent in 2008. Overall, one in three mobile web users use their handsets daily to go online (33%), up from 22 percent. This rises to 41 percent for those with touchscreen phones. A total of 35 percent of mobile internet users subscribe to mobile data flat-rates. The Accenture Mobile Web Watch 2009 study involved a survey of 3,063 internet users in Germany by Forsa.
