'Leuven gets first FTTH project in Belgium'

Jul 20, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- A new neighbourhood in Leuven in Belgium will be the first to have full fibre coverage, Datanews reported. The Tweewaters project includes 1200 homes as well as shop and business space, built to conserve energy and limit automobile use. The fibre rollout by Tyco Electronics will start in April next year and last eighteen months, with the aim of creating an open network for every service provider. Belgacom and Telenet may also rollout parallel copper networks.
