BRIEF: New Caney ISD hires former AHS principal

Apr 17, 2009 (Athens Daily Review - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- New Caney ISD on Tuesday named former Athens High School Principal Kenn Franklin as the lone finalist to serve as its next superintendent.

The announcement was made on New Caney ISD's Web site on Thursday.

Franklin is currently superintendent of the Marshall Independent School District.

By law, the board must now wait 21 days before voting to hire Franklin, according to information provided by the school.

Franklin was selected after a process carried out by the Texas Association of School Boards, which was hired to direct the search. Interviews were conducted the weeks of March 30 and April 6.

Franklin has served as superintendent in Marshall since 2005, according to the New Caney ISD Web site. Prior to that, he served as assistant superintendent of Marfa ISD. He is listed as having 21 years of experience in education in districts including at the Athens, Tyler and Dallas independent school districts.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree, Masters of Education degree and superintendent certification from the University of Texas at Tyler.
