PBwiki Rolls Out Mobile Edition for iPhone and BlackBerry

Mar 27, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- PBwiki, a supplier of business and educational hosted wikis, has released the PBwiki Mobile Edition, a hosted collaboration suite designed for smartphones like the Apple iPhone and RIM BlackBerry.

PBwiki said the Mobile Edition provides ubiquitous access to critical information stored on a customer's PBwiki. No special URL or configuration is needed; users simply enter their PBwiki's URL into their smartphone (such as an iPhone or BlackBerry). PBwiki Mobile Edition will automatically recognize this fact and display a mobile-optimized interface. This allows PBwiki to provide the same speed and ease-of-use for mobile users as it has for desktop users. "In this age of information, it is critical that we have access to the right information at the right time," said Gwen Jorgens, AVP at RBC Wealth Management. "PBwiki Mobile Edition will free us from the limitations of the desktop and empower our users to find information exactly when they need it, whether that's answering an email on their BlackBerry, running into a colleague in the hallway, or at a critical decision point in a meeting." Mobile access is becoming an increasingly essential requirement for effective collaboration. "With the right mobile content and collaboration applications, most information workers could be productive while walking down the hall to a meeting, cramming in a little work before bedtime, or waiting for the bus," wrote Ted Schadler, Vice President and Principal Analyst at Forrester Research in the October 2008 report BlackBerry: An Emerging Platform For Mobile Collaboration. The report adds, "Of the roughly 15 percent of firms that are tackling unified communications -- linking all communication channels, devices, and applications -- the vast majority feel that linking collaboration and unified communications is important. The implication is that mobile communication and collaboration must come together." "We're always focused on helping teams be more productive and efficient," said PBwiki CEO Jim Groff. "When our customers started pointing out how a mobile solution would improve employee productivity, creating PBwiki Mobile Edition was a natural next step. Our focus was to take PBwiki's strengths--speed, elegance, and ease-of-user--and carry them over into the mobile world." ((Comments on this story may be sent to [email protected]))
