China Mobile adds 6.7 million users in January

BEIJING, Feb 20, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- China Mobile (0941.HK; CHL.NYSE), the leading telecom operator in China, added 6.67 million new cell phone users in the first month of this year, boosting the total to 463.92 million Included were 226,000 TD-SCDMA users transferred to the carrier on a one-off basis, as it started to lease the TD networks from its parent company and commenced 3G business operation since this year.



Net addition of China Telecom's (0728.HK; CHA.NYSE) mobile subscribers increased 1.02 million in January, with the total number hitting 28.93 million.

Meanwhile, the telecom operator's fixed-line users dropped 970,000 to 207.38 million, and its broadband subscribers grew 760,000 to 45.03 million.
