CI-Net: Newmarket businesses to get new high speed WiMAX-ready fixed wireless Internet service; Newmarket to receive high bandwidth wireless Internet service from CI-Net(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RDATE:05112008 Newmarketin Suffolk is to get a new service that beams high performance Internet connectivity to businesses in the area using WiMAX-ready fixed wireless radio signals. CI-Net's RedKite ‘leased line in the sky' service will offer businesses 2-100 MB/per second uncontended, symmetric Internet connections delivered by a wireless base station that will transmit point-to-point wireless signals in a radius of up to 10 km. RedKite antennas fixed outside subscribers' buildings will pick up the signals allowing bandwidth to be transferred directly to their Local Area Networks via standard Ethernet connections. "We're providing an affordable alternative to conventional leased line Internet connections which are expensive to deliver in relatively rural areas such as Newmarketwhere large distances need to be dug up to lay cable," said Graham Mclean, MD of fully managed wide area networks, hosting and internet solutions company, CI-Net. "Firms who can't afford a leased line often tend to settle for slower ADSL broadband which puts added pressure on the broadband network in the area. This, coupled with the sheer distances between susbcribers' buildings and their nearest operator exchange in rural areas means broadband can be more problematic with a greater chance of outages." RedKite is delivered using wireless equipment from Redline Communications running at 5.8 MHz. The service, which is due to be launched in Newmarketin the New Year, is already available in ten UKlocations including parts of London, Birmingham, Oxford, Harwell and Hemel Hempstead. "Some businesses choose RedKite as an additional connection alongside their wired service with automatic load balancing and failover. By having your wired service backed up by a separate wireless service you can build in true resilience and business continuity," said Mclean. The RedKite service provides 99.9 per cent availability backed by a Service Level Agreement (SLA) that gives customers service credits if CI-Net fails to meet this performance.
