Mobile gamers can now expect improved graphics in their mobiles while playing games. AMD (News - Alert) has entered into an agreement with QUALCOMM Incorporated to license cutting-edge graphics core technology. QUALCOMM is a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and mobile data solutions, for next-generation chipsets.

According to the agreement, AMD will deliver innovative new graphics solutions to QUALCOMM the delivery of advanced hardware and software applications for enhanced mobile graphics experiences. To accelerate this growth, AMD is working with various hardware and software suppliers to drive new graphics standards and industry-leading technology, such as the AMD patented Unified Shader Architecture.

Steve Mollenkopf, senior vice president of product management for QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies observed that QUALCOMM’s licensing of AMD’s industry-leading OpenGL ES 2.0 IP for integration into QUALCOMM’s chipset solutions allows the company to enhance their leadership in providing the highest quality graphics application experience in the industry.
This agreement will also bring AMD’s patented Unified Shader Architecture to QUALCOMM’s advanced Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets. This architecture was first introduced in the Microsoft (News - Alert) Xbox 360 gaming system and will now allow QUALCOMM to reach millions of mobile phone users.

Alex Caccia, CEO of Ideaworks3D said in a press release, “The promise of upcoming handheld architectures supporting OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics standards is expected to bring a game-changing evolution in 3D capabilities for developers.
