 TMCnet Assistant Editor
For the deployment of the first ever softswitch in the Republic of El Salvador, MERA Systems ( News - Alert) and one of Latin Americas top 3 telcos, Telecam, have teamed together.
As per the partnership, Telecam deployed MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch II (MVTS II) as the core element of its network.
Konstantin Nikashov, CEO of MERA Systems commented in a statement to the press, “The VoIP market in El Salvador has reached a stage where a softswitch has become a ‘must’, something a carrier cannot do without for further growth."
Telecam turned to MERA Systems solution to provide them with a "robust and reliable solution that would centralize VoIP traffic management on its network." With this, the telco no longer needs to utilize multiple gateways to route VoIP calls between its POPs and peering partner networks.
According to a news release, "MVTS II functions as a single entry point into the carrier’s network, enables topology hiding, provides intelligent call routing, performs two-way SIP/ H.323 translation, on-the-fly transcoding and ensures seamless interoperability with customer and partner networks."
The routing tools included in the solution make it possible to route calls efficiently and via the most ‘appealing’ routes. These choices factor in cost, quality, and information from ENUM registries, route capacity, gateway and route load as well as other business-critical parameters.
"MVTS II has significantly simplified our network management chores – now we have a single point for collection of call details, accounting and other business critical data. We also appreciated sophisticated routing capabilities and advanced scalability opportunities of MVTS II that cater for our growth ambitions," Juan Carlos Miranda, Regional Sales Manager of Telecam also commented.
