Motorola to launch locally made mobile phone

(BNamericas.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) US mobile handset manufacturer Motorola (NYSE: MOT) plans to launch in the third quarter of 2007 a new cell phone fully developed in Brazil, a Motorola spokesperson confirmed to BNamericas.

Motorola will draw on the technology and software of 600 partners spread throughout Brazil, according to the press officer.

The new phone is expected to use GSM technology and should be sold to the Latin American market, newspaper Gazeta Mercantil reported Roberto Soboll, senior director of engineering for Motorola Latin America, as saying.

Motorola would not provide any further details about the mobile phone or its plans for production.

Motorola invested US$250mn over the last 10 years in Brazil to establish a global competence center in the country, the newspaper reported.
