Discretix Receives $20 Million VC Boost To Develop New Mobile Content Protection Solutions

BARCELONA, Spain --(Business Wire)-- Discretix, the leading provider of embedded security and DRM solutions for mobile devices and Flash memory, announced today that it plans to leverage its recent $20 million in new investment financing to pursue an expanded range of content protection solutions for the consumer and enterprise markets.

Chief among Discretix' areas of investment is Mobile TV; especially security technologies that provide conditional access for TV content delivered to a mobile device. Into this offering Discretix plans to incorporate its traditional strengths in full device integration, multi-scheme support, and flexible architectures that are "future-proofed" to accommodate new security schemes as they become available.

"This new round of investment from major funders including Sequoia Capital is an affirmation of Discretix' many accomplishments as well as the company's plans for the future," said Gal Salomon, chief executive officer and founder of Discretix. "We have been fortunate to deploy our technologies into some of the world's most popular mobile and Flash memory platforms. This experience has given us the momentum necessary to develop all kinds of new and innovative security solutions."

Endorsement for Discretix' Content Protection Solutions

Among the companies and products leveraging Discretix' content protection technologies are BenQ's next generation of features phones, UIQ Technology's application development platform for the Symbian operating system, and Opera Software's Opera Browser.

"Discretix' Multi-Scheme DRM Client is the most comprehensive DRM solution available, and UIQ is pleased to have Discretix as our selected solution partner," said Carina Dietmann, Head of Marketing at UIQ Technology.

Eric Schmidt, group product manager for Windows Digital Media at Microsoft, states, "Partners like Discretix are creating exciting new mobile entertainment experiences for consumers worldwide by providing a robust Windows Media-enabled solution that operators can quickly and easily take to market."

"By pre-integrating this reliable and efficient DRM technology, Opera helps device OEMs lower their development risk, shorten their time-to-market, lower their overall development costs, and improve the security of the commercial content carried on their products," said Bjarte Vosseteig, Director Product Management Mobile of Opera Software.

Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Core Media, and Symbian are just a few of the leading mobile industry companies that have partnered with Discretix in the development of the content protection ecosystem.

Positioned as a Trusted Security Technology Partner

Discretix intends to further expand upon its reputation as a trusted partner who focuses on the development of security technologies. "Our company works closely alongside OEMs, application developers and content providers to provide complete security platforms," noted Gal Salomon.
