PRAGUE - South Korean car maker Hyundai is to decide on the locality for its new car plant by the end of January, Tomas Hruda, the CEO of the agency CzechInvest, said.

CzechInvest managers are leaving for South Korea today together with reps of the Industry and Trade Ministry and the Moravskoslezsky and Zlinsky regions which are vying for the investment. Student Agency launches Ostrava-Prague bus line today ------------------------------------------------------



OSTRAVA, North Moravia - Transport company Student Agency (SA) launched a bus line between Ostrava and Prague today and the occupancy stood at some 50 percent, SA CEO Radim Jancura told CTK.

"I did not expect such a high occupancy on the first day, people are getting used gradually. Within a month, we want to raise the occupancy to 80 percent," he added. IT Ministry to distribute Kc30m for 27 computer training projects -----------------------------------------------------------------


PRAGUE - The IT Ministry will distribute Kc30m among 27 projects within a national computer literacy programme but the recommendation of the selection commission still has to be approved by IT Minister Dana Berova, ministry spokeswoman Klara Volna said today.

In total, 48 projects were submitted and eight were eliminated for formal shortcomings. Strom telecom gains certificate to enter Belarus mobile market --------------------------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - Strom telecom, a domestic producer of telecoms equipment, has gained a certificate from Belarus authorities for placing its products in Belarussian mobile networks, the company said in a press release today.

Prior to the certification, the equipment was tested both in the Czech Republic and Belarus where MTS Belarus, the biggest Belarussian operator, took part in the testing. Czech pilots protest against NBU security screening ---------------------------------------------------

PRAGUE - Pilots and other staff protested at the Prague- Ruzyne airport today against the way they are being screened, arguing they refused to inform on their colleagues.

The duty to undergo the National Security Office (NBU) screens is valid as of January. However, the protestors claim that the screening goes much deeper than is usual in the EU countries. The questions concern, for example, partner relationships, stays abroad and contacts with people living abroad. Skoda JS to submit bid to complete nuclear plant in Bulgaria ------------------------------------------------------------

PLZEN, West Bohemia - Skoda JS, which has succeeded in the first round of tender for the construction of two 1,000 MW units of a nuclear power plant in Belene, Bulgaria, will submit an offer with technical and commercial details on February 1, Skoda JS director Radek Bencik told CTK.

Russian foreign trade company Atomstrojexport will also submit a bid. The Bulgarians are to decide on the general contractor of the project for Kc70bn to Kc80bn by the end of this year. V4 to prepare joint plan for EU to back renewal of old flats ------------------------------------------------------------

BRATISLAVA - Experts from ministries from CzechRep, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary, or the Visegrad Four, today agreed on a common proposal to help them draw money from EU funds for the renewal of old apartment houses, Daniela Grabmuellerova of the Czech Local Development Ministry told CTK.

The possibility of such use of European finances was opened by the recently approved EU financial perspective. The new EU members are now trying to achieve that the support be approved also for the renewal of prefabs.
