Iran warns U.S. of retaliation if attacked+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TEHRAN, April 26_(Kyodo) _ Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned the United States that if it attacks Iran, U.S. interests around the world would come to harm.

Khamenei made the apparent threat of retaliation in an address before a gathering of people.

His remarks came a day after Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani said Tehran would suspend its relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency if the U.N. Security Council imposes sanctions over its uranium enrichment program.

Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, also said Tehran would initiate "covert" nuclear activities if its nuclear facilities come under military attack.

Iran is seen as unlikely to comply with a U.N. Security Council presidential statement issued March 29 that called on Tehran to halt its controversial nuclear activities within 30 days.
