South Korea to build pilot eco-friendly housing complex
(Asia In Focus Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)SEOUL, April 7 Asia in Focus - South Korea will build a pilot eco-friendly housing complex as part of the country's efforts to make extensive use of thermal and solar power, the government said Friday. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said clean, reusable energy will be used for 5 per cent of the power for the homes, schools, public buildings and parks in the complex.
* Construction of the complex on a site of 3.03 million square meters in the Sosabul region in Pyeongtaek, 70 km south of Seoul, is scheduled to be completed by 2011. It is expected to have 12,500 households.
* The Commerce Ministry said it has signed a development agreement with the KOREA LAND CORP., which will be tasked with the overall construction.
