Pioneer to sell DVD-based car navigation system in China+(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)TOKYO, Feb. 22_(Kyodo) _ Pioneer Corp. said Wednesday that from March it will begin selling in China a DVD ROM-based car navigation system that also plays music and movies. The company is launching its GPS car navigation systems in China, after first marketing them in Japan from 1990 and Europe and North America from 1999, in light of the burgeoning growth of the Chinese auto market. The AVIC-D8000 navigation system features voice guidance and comes with a touch-sensitive screen displaying map data for China's four major cities, namely, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing, as well as for 20 provinces including Fujian, Canton and Sichuan, and two autonomous regions. It also plays up to 480 minutes of CD music and a rear monitor to be sold separately lets passengers in the back seats watch DVDs. The suggested retail price is 19,800 yuan, or about $2,400. Pioneer expects good sales on the assumption that new automobile sales in China will likely climb to over 10 million vehicles by 2014, up from more than 5 million in 2004. |
