ENUM weds traditional phone numbers and the Internet for VoIP, under the ENUM standard, which allows VoIP to use the DNS for signaling. However, today's DNS technology suffers from scalability and privacy issues, and raises questions about the lengthy DNS names of ENUM that work poorly when run on DNS servers tuned for short names. Mockapetris will provide insight on how to overcome these issues, so carriers are best prepared for current and future implementations.
"DNS is clearly instrumental in moving internet telephony forward, but carriers need to be aware of the significant adjustments that need to be made in order to ensure safe, scalable deployment," said Paul Mockapetris, chairman and chief scientist. "I look forward to sharing Nominum's perspective on solutions to aid the aging DNS architecture at the INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & Expo later this month."
"We are very pleased that Paul Mockapetris will be participating in this year's show. Paul's work is widely recognized and Nominum is highly respected as a leader in IP address management. I am confident that our attendees will appreciate and value the opportunity to hear his perspective on the topic," said TMC president and conference co-chair, Rich Tehrani. "Over the past twelve months, widespread adoption of VoIP by global service providers, businesses and governments has reinforced that this exciting technology is a viable, cost-effective communications solution. As a result, we are seeing a significant increase in the number of senior-level executives attending INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO as a means of learning about the technology so they too can take advantage of its benefits."
The INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO is the world's largest and most widely-attended VoIP tradeshow. Last February, the show drew over 6,200 buyers and sellers of VoIP products and services to Miami. For the upcoming October 2005 show, TMC projects total attendance to exceed 7,500.
Paul Mockapetris' session takes place on October 24, 3:00-3:45 p.m. at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Registration for the show is now open. Anyone interested may register by visiting http://www.itexpo.com/. Nominum will be exhibiting in booth #440.
