EED Discovery Integrates with EMC EmailXtender; New Integration Strengthens Customers Ability to Reduce Legal Discovery and Litigation Costs

SEATTLE --(Business Wire)-- April 5, 2005 -- Electronic Evidence Discovery, Inc. today announced the integration of its automated electronic discovery system, EED Discovery, with EMC EmailXtender, the email archiving solution from EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC). This integration will help EmailXtender customers achieve considerable litigation cost savings by automating e-discovery throughout their enterprise.

EED Discovery enables the automatic collection, processing, de-duplication, searching, review and production of data from Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Notes/Domino Servers, PSTs, NSFs, File Systems, desktops, Network Shares, and now, EmailXtender. EmailXtender is centralized data storage and retrieval software that, based on user-defined policies, automatically moves data off the email message server and into an email archival system, capturing and indexing all incoming and outgoing messages.

"The combination of EED Discovery with EMC EmailXtender helps customers deploy best of breed archiving, litigation and compliance technologies to control costs while meeting their discovery and compliance obligations," said Denise Reier, vice president of messaging product marketing, EMC Software. "By automating collection and discovery throughout the organization, customers can continue to reduce complexities and cost within their infrastructures and further leverage information across its lifecycle."

With the integration of the two products, users of EED Discovery are able to search the EmailXtender repository and extract data into the automated electronic discovery processing and review system, without requiring the creation of intermediary PST or NSF files. It supports user queries that execute directly against EmailXtender's ISYS query engine -- allowing the user to use the same familiar query language that they use when executing user searches against the archive. Once a search is executed, data is automatically captured and moved directly into EED Discovery for processing and use in legal discovery.

EED Discovery users save considerable costs by being able to process, search, cull and include or exclude data before turning it over to attorneys for review. The data can be reviewed by EED's Discovery Partner review application or other common litigation support package, and then produced in whatever format is required, including TIFF, PDF, paper, or native format. The history of review calls and productions is maintained in the Discovery Partner repository, further reducing attorney review time and the sanction risks associated with inconsistent productions.

"We are very excited to integrate with EMC EmailXtender because so many of its customers need an integrated discovery solution," said EED CEO John Jessen. "EMC helps organizations manage their electronic data. Now, with the integration of EED Discovery, EMC is empowering their customers to seize control of what may be the most costly and difficult aspect of data management -- defensible litigation and regulatory compliance."

EED Discovery is licensed on a subscription or perpetual license basis. Price is based on number of custodians subject to discovery and number of data sources accessed by the system. EED provides training for users of EED Discovery. Or, through its EED on Demand program, EED can run the system with onsite staff or remotely through secure Virtual Private Networks from its Seattle and New York technology centers.
