Canon U.S.A. Medical Systems Division Introduces All Digital Fundus Imaging Camera; System Easily Handles Color Fundus Imaging And Fluorescein Angiography IRVINE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Oct. 23, 2004 -- The medical systems division of Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ), has introduced the Canon CF-60DSi all digital color fundus camera that also supports fluorescein angiography (FA). It provides high image quality, immediate image viewing and DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) networking capabilities. The CF-60DSi is being introduced today at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) meeting in New Orleans (Canon Booth #1243).The new Canon CF-60DSi, incorporates the company's fundus camera optics to provide 60-degree field angle coverage to capture a larger area of the retina with each image than can be captured with a 50-degree field angle. The Canon CF-60DSi also offers close-ups to support diagnostic requirements in ophthalmology and software to manage workflow. When used with the Canon EOS-1Ds digital camera, images feature a "full frame" CMOS sensor -- the same size as a 35mm film frame -- with 11.1 megapixel resolution. The CMOS sensor provides excellent detail and contrast with color fundus images or Flourescein Angiography. A major benefit of CMOS sensor high resolution is the ability to view the retina in clear detail, and, in many situations, to view the retina in clear detail even when images are enlarged to provide a closer look at ocular conditions. The high sensitivity of the CMOS sensor reduces the amount of light needed for image capture, which helps increase patient comfort during examinations. With DICOM standards for viewing, distributing and storing images increasing in the healthcare industry, Canon has added a DICOM-compliant network interface as a standard feature. This allows for connection of the Canon CF-60DSi to a wide variety of network configurations, including local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN). The Canon CF-60DSi Control Software has functions for image capture, study worklist management, image transfer, printing, QA viewing and temporary storage. For each captured image, the software assembles the image, patient/study data, camera information and timer data into a comprehensive medical data file suited for diverse image management systems, such as the Canon U.S.A., Inc. Eye Q imaging system or other PACS.
