The company designs custom circuit board assemblies for the medical, transportation, military and HVAC industries and operates over 95,000 square feet of manufacturing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Portland, Oregon; and Tecate, Mexico. MEC provides design and assembly work to many blue chip OEMs.Originally founded in 1954 by Mr. Hyman Smith, the company operated out of a small backroom at a plant on Hopkins Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The company produced electronic test instruments, or hi pot testers used in testing for electrical defects in products. In 1985, Mike Stroehr, an Electrical Engineer from the University of Nebraska, purchased the 23-man company. Under Stroehr’s leadership, the company moved from a focus in electrical circuitry to electronic engineering services and now boasts in excess of 200 employees, including project engineers, design engineers, test engineers, circuit board designers and mechanical engineers. A client-centric organization focused on its customers’ unique product and service needs, MEC integrates engineering excellence, manufacturing, supply chain management and quality assurance processes. With a thorough knowledge of customers and their needs, teams develop a tailored solution in microprocessor and micro-controllers hardware and software design and assembly. And, as customers continue to place more value on well-engineered products, and products designed for manufacturability, MEC continues to increase its focus on value-added engineering services. MEC recently established a full-service web site called ScreamingCircuits.com. The web site offers quick turn PBC assembly, instant PCB quoting, order management, secure file uploads and online order status. MEC is currently focusing on continuous improvement, including lean manufacturing principles and design-for-cost initiatives. 50th anniversary events will take place throughout the year for employees, customers and suppliers. |
