Nanotechnology Conference at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Explores Innovation, Opportunity and Commercialization
TROY, N.Y. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 11, 2004 -- Nov. 14-15 Event also Highlights Nanomaterials, Nanomedicine, Legal and Policy Issues
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will host Nanotechnology: Innovation, Opportunity, and Commercialization, a conference highlighting R&D and exploring opportunities in commercialization in nanotechnology, nanoscience, nanomedicine, and related science and engineering fields. The two-day event will be held on Nov 15-16 and offer networking opportunities to researchers from industry, government, and academia, as well as intellectual property practitioners, business and economic development professionals, technology transfer specialists, policymakers and venture capitalists. Keynotes, presentations and panel discussions throughout the two days will explore research and development innovations, commercialization opportunities, and intellectual property, regulatory, environmental and policy issues.
"A classic technological revolution is unfolding at the intersection of engineering, biology, and the physical and information sciences," said Dr. Raj Bawa, conference chair and president of Bawa Biotechnology Consulting in Arlington, Virginia. "Although the process of converting research into viable market products will be long and difficult, governments across the globe are impressed by nanotechnology's potential and are allocating generous funds for research."
According to the National Science Foundation, by 2015 the annual global market for nano-related goods and services will top one trillion U.S. dollars. The 21st Century Nanotechnology Research and Development Act (Pub. L. No. 108-153) has authorized $3.7 billion in federal funding from 2005 to 2008 to support nanotechnology R&D.
The keynote speakers include Prof. Richard Siegel, director of the Rensselaer Nanotechnology Center; the Honorable Rodney E. Slater, partner at Patton Boggs law firm in Washington, D.C. and former Transportation Secretary; and F. Mark Modzelewski, founder of the U.S. NanoBusiness Alliance and managing director of Lux Research Inc. in New York City.
Abstracts from the conference will be published in the peer-reviewed journal, Nanotechnology Law & Business. Registration for Nanotechnology: Innovation, Opportunity, and Commercialization is $100 per person and limited to 200 registrants.
