CSC Enhances Healthcare Software With Pegasystems' Business Rules Engine

Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC - News) announced an agreement to integrate Pegasystems Inc.'s (Nasdaq: PEGA - News) PegaRULES Process Commander (PRPC) software into CSC's Web-enabled workflow system for health plans.

CSC's health plan workflow system, which clients use with CSC's PowerSTEPP, PowerMHS and MHC health claims and plan administration systems, automates the claims resolution process and delivers information to member services representatives, claims examiners and provider relations staff. CSC will use Pegasystems' PRPC software to enhance CSC's workflow system to simplify the development, deployment and maintenance of enterprisewide healthcare business process applications. Pegasystems' PRPC features a business rules engine (BRE) that enables users to enter, manage and easily change the business policies and practices that drive mission-critical applications.

"Pegasystems' PRPC incorporates comprehensive tools with a sophisticated BRE," said Alan Trefler, Pegasystems chief executive officer. "The combination of CSC's workflow system and PRPC will enable business users to rapidly change their claims processes without changing the underlying software code."

In the March 2, 2004, Gartner Inc. report, "Innovative Vendors in Business Rule Management," Gartner vice president and analyst Jim Sinur positioned Pegasystems as one of six "innovative leaders" in the category of business rules management.

"As today's health plans work to become more consumer focused, they need the technology to help them quickly achieve that goal," said Steve Sabino, vice president of CSC's Health Plan Solutions business unit. "With Pegasystems' rules-based technology, CSC is better positioned to speed a health plan's transformation."

For more than 25 years, CSC has delivered applications and outsourcing services that help health plans, preferred provider organizations, third-party administrators and physician practices improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, increase speed to market and improve customer service and care management. CSC's applications, application service provider and business process outsourcing services support more than 300 healthcare clients, representing 30 million covered lives and 230 million claims annually.
