Allied Telesyn Offers Outside Plant Enclosure for Triple Play; Jointly Developed Marconi/Allied Telesyn Cabinets are Optimized for FTTx & ADSL2+

BOTHELL, Wash. --(Business Wire)-- June 17, 2004 -- Allied Telesyn today announced a new family of outside plant enclosures designed specifically for the delivery of Triple Play technologies, including ADSL2+ and FTTx. Developed in conjunction with Marconi's Outside Plant Division, the Remote Multi-services Terminal (RMT) cabinet family is the latest building block in Allied Telesyn's IP3 Triple Play portfolio for last-mile service providers.

Because they have been designed to accommodate and complement Allied Telesyn's groundbreaking family of Multiservice Access Platforms (MAPs), these sealed cabinets are equipped to support FTTx, Copper services, or a mixture of both. This offers service providers maximum flexibility in designing and upgrading their Triple Play networks.

Available in three sizes to ensure room for both current equipment and future growth, the RMT series was designed with input from ILECs themselves. The RMT's extensive feature set includes:

-- Adherence to stringent Telcordia GR487 design standards.

-- Thermal dissipation, allowing for 100% take rates of ADSL2+ or FTTH.

-- Extra space for 3rd-party equipment.

-- A range of sizes suitable for most Service Provider deployments.

-- Enhanced wiring systems for optimized ADSL2+ performance. (The first cabinet of its kind.)

-- Interconnection in survivable 50 millisecond failover rings.

-- A fully configured, integrated part of a Triple Play application.

Other options include batteries, battery heater, generator connector, integrated cross connect and CAT5 wiring among cabinet components.

"Most access vendors perceive cabinets as simple sheet metal. To our customers, their reliability and flexibility is a critical element in designing a lifeline network," said Bill Allen, Vice President Operations for the Network Service Provider group. "We listened carefully to what ILECs asked for in thermal capacity, cabling options, and space requirements."

Part of the IP3 Triple Play solution, the Remote Multi-services Terminal cabinet series was jointly developed with Marconi's Outside Plant division, and modeled in part on cabinet designs already widely deployed by the RBOCs and many other North American ILECs.

The RMT cabinet line is generally available and currently being deployed nationwide.
