Acsis Launches RFID Quickstart Program for Consumer Products and Pharmaceutical Companies

MARLTON, N.J. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 10, 2004 -- Complete RFID Vertical Packages Offer Low Total Cost of Ownership for Compliance While Providing a Scalable Platform for Enterprise-Wide Integration

Acsis, Inc., focused on delivering supply chain and business process automation solutions, today announced the launch of its RFID Quickstart program. The program consists of two distinct preconfigured solution packages that are tailored to help consumer products and pharmaceutical companies quickly meet trading partners' radio frequency identification (RFID) compliance mandates while providing a scalable platform and roadmap for future enterprise-wide implementations as their needs grow.

Each solution package includes all the necessary components for a successful RFID implementation including a fixed-reader station, smart-label printer, light stacks, services and software based on Acsis' Adaptive Device Integration Platform.

The Adaptive Device Integration Platform is an open, Web services-based device integration technology that allows for EPC commissioning management and the full integration and standardization of devices regardless of vendor, including RFID readers, barcode scanners, printers, optical and density sensors, palletizers, programmable logic controllers (PLC's), weigh scales, OPC-based production equipment, which are used in modern manufacturing and distribution operations. By standardizing communication between devices and controls on the factory floor, Acsis builds business events into device logic to bring together supply chain data from disparate systems.

The Quickstart program was designed to enable companies to quickly and cost effectively meet the RFID mandates of Wal-Mart and their other major retailer partners. Most of these early RFID adopters are Fortune 1,000 manufacturers requiring a high degree of scalability and integration to support multiple distribution operations.

"Acsis will provide our customers exactly what they need to get started and give them a flexible roadmap to achieve a full-scale implementation through a phased approach," said Celestine Vettical, Acsis' vice president of solutions and strategy. "Our solutions have been implemented in mission critical, enterprise-wide environments for eight years, including RFID solutions for at least four years. This helps mitigate the risk of implementing unproven and immature RFID products. Customers can use our Quickstart program as a stepping stone to achieve the requirements today while we help them explore how to achieve business value in their operations and supply chains."

With a special expertise in SAP(R) solution environments, Acsis' solution brings the hardware and application levels together for all shop floor systems and helps prepare customers for integration with SAP's Auto-ID Infrastructure.

"Bringing these two layers together will enable customers to achieve value in two ways," said Dave Harty, Acsis' chief technology officer. "First, we standardize the device-level communication and controls of all shop floor systems, which reduces the costs of integration and maintenance of these systems. Second, we build the business events and apply logic at the device level, bringing together data from many systems and delivering it in real-time for customers. This enables companies to make better and more flexible business planning and forecasting decisions using data that is collected automatically as the business processes occur."

Acsis' Adaptive Device Integration Platform becomes even more critical because of changes in the technology and marketplace. With the Adaptive Device Integration Platform, customers never have to worry about evolving RFID technologies or the consolidation of vendors.

"No one knows what the RFID landscape will look like over the next 12 months as vendors consolidate and the technology and associated data-collection devices evolve," said Harty. "Acsis eliminates the risk inherent in RFID deployments by providing customers with a mature, scaleable and hardware-agnostic solution to facilitate compliance with today's mandates and an adaptive underlying integration platform to incorporate the next-generation of data collection devices and technologies."
