Convergys Announces Infinys Solution To Mange Wi-Fi Roaming, Partnerships And Convergent Billing

Convergys Corporation, a provider of integrated billing, employee care and customer care services, announced the availability of its Infinys solution to manage the complexities of Wi-Fi roaming, partner management, and convergent billing for mainstream mobile and fixed service
operators.

The Infinys solution enables partner care and settlement for digital content providers and venue hosts, as well as inter-carrier settlement among wireless Internet service providers (WISPs) that manage service for individual Wi-Fi hotspots (i.e., public Internet access points like retail outlets, hotels, airports, etc.)

In making this Infinys solution available, Convergys is working with Intel, a recognized global leader in the Wi-Fi market space. Intel is spearheading a major campaign to make it easy for users to access Wi-Fi services through Intel Centrino mobile technology. Additionally, Intel is working with operators worldwide to make such access available to
their subscribers on a wide scale. As a result, global Wi-Fi adoption rates continue to accelerate with the greater availability of Wi-Fi-ready portable computers and handheld devices, and public access points known as hot spots.

Convergys and Intel are demonstrating this Infinys solution, running on HP servers utilizing Intel's Itanium platform, at the ITU's Telecom World 2003 in Geneva. The demonstration, Mobility Goes to the Mall, illustrates key features and benefits of the Infinys solution in the context of a Wi-Fi
deployment.

Industry analyst firm IDC expects annual growth in the number of Wi-Fi users worldwide to exceed 110 percent through 2007. With this rapid growth in consumer adoption, operators will need convergent, functionally complete, and scalable rating, billing, and partner settlement systems.

The Wi-Fi market provides mainstream mobile and fixed service operators with an opportunity to generate incremental revenue, said Jeff Gordon, Convergys Senior Vice President of Product Development and Management.

With Infinys, these operators will change the dynamics of this new service category by simplifying user setup with a common account and capturing user data in a centralized database for efficient billing and settlement. Users
will no longer have to create a unique user id each time they initiate service at different hotspots or use their credit cards for each setup session. This will help accelerate acceptance of Wi-Fi and hotspot services, while driving up new revenue opportunity for operators.

As more and more Wi-Fi-enabled devices using innovative Intel technologies such as Intel Centrino mobile technology proliferate in the market, subscriber demand for Wi-Fi services will increase rapidly, said Eric Mentzer, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the Intel
Communications Group. Intel Itanium 2 and dual Xeon processor-based Carrier Grade Servers from HP provide the performance necessary for Convergys to create cost-effective billing and relationship management solutions for wireless service providers.
