York will offer free electronics recycling for residents


Feb 20, 2013 (The Patriot-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The City of York, in conjunction with the York County Solid Waste Authority will conduct a free electronics recycling collection 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month in the parking lot behind Roll'R Way at Memorial Complex , 900 S. Vander Ave.



The next collection is March 2.

All York County residents, businesses and nonprofits are eligible to participate.


Examples of electronic equipment accepted in this program include answering machines, compact disc players, fax machines, computer hard drives, laptops, mobile phones, modems, microwave ovens, pagers, personal computers (CPU, monitors, keyboards, mouse and peripherals), printers, printed circuit boards, radios, remote controls, stereos, tape players, telephones and telephone equipment, televisions, VCR's and small satellite dishes.

All cords should be wrapped securely and items should be removed from cardboard boxes.

Items not accepted are power tools, toasters, hair dryers, curling irons, clothes irons, wall clocks or electric razors; items that contain freon/refrigerant such as air conditioners and dehumidifiers; and construction/demolition material, furniture, appliances, white goods or household hazardous waste.

In addition to the city's collection on the first Saturday of each month, the authority holds a collection at its site on Flour Mill Road on the third Saturday of each month.
