XO Communications study reveals that 87% of decision makers reap higher-than-expected level of benefits from unified communications

Eighty-seven percent of business and IT decision-makers report that the benefits from unified communications (UC) met or exceeded their expectations according to recent research commissioned by XO Communications (XO). The study found that 80 percent of respondents indicated that UC met or exceeded expectations for both collaboration and productivity gains. However, about 50 percent of respondents said that companies need to invest in resources for user evangelization and training to get the most out of their UC solutions.

UBM Tech surveyed business and IT decision-makers at 426 enterprise and small-to-medium business organizations to better understand UC adopter perception. The study also showed that UC technology costs met or were actually lower than anticipated for 74 percent of respondents. The findings of this research were published in a Whitepaper titled "The State of Unified Communications."

"Businesses are eager to benefit from the collaboration and productivity enhancements that UC has to offer," said Jake Heinz, senior vice president of marketing and product at XO Communications (News - Alert). "XO believes that businesses profit from understanding that companies using UC services are benefiting significantly from improved collaboration and productivity. To that end, the study points out that companies need to invest in end-user training so they can maximize quickly the ROI of their UC investment."

XO offers a full suite of unified communications capabilities designed for business customers that can be leveraged through its MPLS IP VPN based wide area network (WAN) that ensures quality and reliability. The services include Hosted PBX (News - Alert), contact center solutions, interactive voice response services and a variety of productivity and mobility tools. XO has launched a progressive training course that helps companies to learn quickly how to leverage the many UC features inherent with their XO Hosted PBX solutions.
