XO Communications expands award-winning network in the Salt Lake City region

Following its 2014 network expansion strategy announcement, XO Communications (News - Alert) (XO) has invested nearly $5 million into the Salt Lake City economy by adding nearly 100 office buildings directly onto its advanced communications network in the region. The company is now able to serve over 800 businesses in more than 300 multi-tenant buildings and facilities in the Salt Lake City area with its suite of IP-based Ethernet, voice and network services.

"Businesses accessing the XO high-speed national network through a direct, fiber optic connection benefit because end-to-end services are monitored and managed by a single provider," said Chris Ancell, CEO of XO Communications. "As a result, customers can receive services quickly and they can easily scale their communications services to adapt to changig business requirements. Moreover, building managers benefit from our direct fiber connections because, as an alternative service provider, XO helps attract and retain tenants that require high-speed connectivity over one of the nation's most advanced business networks."

The network expansion in the Salt Lake City region is part of a larger strategy XO rolled out in 2014 to invest up to $500 million to grow its network across the nation. XO has completed fiber construction projects into nearly 550 enterprise buildings across 25 regional markets since announcing the initiative last year. In addition to Salt Lake City, direct connections have been completed in buildings in the following regions: Boston, New York City, the Washington, D.C. area, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, Southern California, San Francisco, the Pacific Northwest and other urban areas.

"Our strategy is to focus on expanding our network where customers have the greatest need. Through 2016, XO plans to continue to strategically add direct fiber connections to certain buildings that are within proximity of the XO high density fiber and Ethernet network," concluded Ancell.

"Working with XO, specifically on solutions and implementations requiring fiber build-outs, has been both productive and liberating to our business," said Randy Riches, director of telecommunications at Ken Garff Enterprises, one of the largest car dealerships in Utah. "In the first half of 2015, XO has added seven of our buildings onto their network in Utah alone, including our headquarters in Salt Lake City. More than a dozen installs are currently under way at our facilities across the country. The company's competitive pricing, responsiveness, and flexibility have helped the Ken Garff Group improve operational efficiencies and communications on a seriously truncated timeline, and with phenomenal results. We highly value our relationship with XO."
