WiTricity Hires Farooq Butt as SVP of Business Development & Strategy


WATERTOWN, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

WiTricity, the industry pioneer in wireless power transfer over distance, today announced that it has named Farooq Butt as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategy. Farooq brings more than 20 years of global experience in driving strategic agendas and revenues for innovative technologies in the wireless and computer/IT industries, serving most recently as VP of Worldwide Business Development and Strategy for Dell's End User Solutions group.

This announcement comes as WiTricity continues to build commercial momentum, counting Intel (News - Alert) and Toyota as investors and licensees of its pioneering wireless power transfer technology. Both Intel and Toyota have recently announced that products using WiTricity technology will be available to consumers within the next 24 months.

Farooq will play a vital role in further accelerating the commercialization of WiTricity's wireless power transfer technology, driving the company's strategy for business expansion and fostering technology partnerships around the globe. With extensive overseas contacts, especially in the Asia Pacific region, Farooq will work with innovative organizations in the consumer electronics, automotive, medical, military and industrial industries to incorporate WiTricity wireless power transfer technology into their products and solutions.

As part of this newly created position, Farooq will also work to develop licensing solutions that speed time-to-market for companies that implement WiTricity's intellectual property (IP). With a wide range of experience in managing IP portfolios at large tech companies, Farooq has helped navigate the intersection of IP and industry standards. His experience will prove instrumental to WiTricity as the company continues to drive awareness for, and adoption of, the Rezence specification, the standard set by the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP). WiTricity is on the Board of the A4WP and is helping to drive mass adoption of wireless charging based on magnetic resonance.

In his role at Dell (News - Alert), Farooq was responsible for crafting the company's strategy across a rapidly expanding $37B product and IP portfolio. Prior to Dell, Farooq served as Senior Director of Technology and Strategy at Motorola's (News - Alert) Mobile Devices Business, where he was tasked with driving the company's long-range technology investments and IP portfolio. Farooq received his M.S. in Computer Science from George Mason University and B.S. in the same field from The College of William and Mary.
